Shrewsbury to Wimbledon
When the morning broke it had stopped raining. We had a good breakfast
at the hotel. Prunes & figs, followed by smoked haddock. Excellent. Even
the coffee was hot and strong. We checked out, leaving our bags at reception,
and walked into town. There we took lots of photographs, visited lots of
shops and generally entertained ourselves for a couple of hours.

At 11, the car was returned to the hotel by the valet service and we loaded
our stuff and drove out of Shrewsbury. The sun shone all the way to Bicester
Village. We managed to find a place in the very full car park and joined
the massed hordes of shoppers. Unfortunately, the stores have become very
upmarket and are obviously aimed at label conscious youths with more money
than sense. We failed to find anything worth buying and, with all the cafes
being packed to capacity, we drove to Tesco and bought coffee and sandwiches.

We drove for another hour to Ruislip, where we had wine and Christmas cake.
With the darkness gathering, we then did the final leg of the journey to
Wimbledon, remaining on the straight and narrow for most of the journey
before becoming lost in Kingston and having to take a couple of attempts
to find our way on the final leg. Once there, we walked up the road to
a local Thai restaurant, had a very acceptable meal and returned to the
house.
