This view goeas across the Inlet towards the houses of Whitby, an exclusive but modern suburb on the hills to the East. Many of the streets have maritime and Captain Cook related names - Discovery, The Sounding, Joseph Banks etc etc
The Inlet is very shallow but it suitable for sailing small boats. In the deeper section there is a water ski club. At the far end, near to Pauatahanui village is an extensive sanctuary for water birds
