Torrential rain overnight and well into the morning so there was no thought of leaving the house until lunchtime. I occupied myself with work and managed to complete my usual weekend's web site updating.

Dunedin Town Hall from the rear ...

... and from the front

By late morning, it was cheering up slightly so we ventured into the town for a visit to the Art Gallery. They were holding a retrospective exhibition of some of their most famous works, many of which I have seen and enjoyed over the years.

Some weeks ago, I heard an odd American woman on the radio describing the project which she was bringing to her role as artist-in-residence in Dunedin. The basic concept was photos taken on long haul flights using a cell phone camera. "What a load of rubbish" I had thought when I heard it.

Now that I have seen the images, I have to recant. The series of photos based on placing airline snacks on the open pages of the in-flight magazines were clever. The "Belgian portraits" were quite amazing. She had used the towels in the toilets to make ruffs, scarves, bonnets etc etc and then taken self-portraits in the toilets. The compositions were brilliant and the technical quality of the images quite remarkable given the circumstances.

Kaleidoscope?

We also spent a little time in a darkened room studying a light show, which was similar to the constantly changing patterns of a Victorian kaleidoscope.

Outside, the weather had improved slightly in that it had, at least, stopped raining. Sun was still marked by its absence.

This was all followed by a light lunch at the record shop, which boasts an extremely good cafe. We then returned home for an afternoon of domestic activities.

Marbeek's shop ...

... and cafe

In the evening I drove across town, back to Pete's parents' house for takeaways and wine. The former were mediocre and the latter very good.
