Feb 24 Christchurch

A very quiet morning. Anne took the dog for a walk. John took Thomas to play cricket and I stayed at home to do some work. Once the early chores had been completed, John & I left in the car to collect bread from the rather nice bakery, which we took home for lunch.

Riccarton House has an interesting history and beautiful grounds about both of which I have written in the past. Today it was the venue for a beer and jazz festival, a perfect way to enjoy a sunny afternoon.

Wigram beer

The beer, from a local boutique brewery, was OK but not brilliant. I had the wheat beer which was better than most from NZ but still not exciting.

The jazz was excellent. I assume that most of the artists were students at the local jazz school.

The music was good

After a while, we wandered across the road to the grounds of Christchurch Boys High, an imposing old school, to watch the closing overs of Thomas’ cricket match. We then drove home and, the evening being warm, we dined in the garden until the mosquitos made their presence felt.

Late on, John and I took Benny for a walk. He rushed us along, determined to get somewhere in a hurry. When we arrived back at the house, we had to go to some trouble to distract him from a hedgehog, which was making its way across the lawn.
