Another relatively good night's sleep and a chance to catch up on some
more work. A late start and some reading in the morning while Jerry did
some chores and Kathryn did some chores and coughed a lot. Her flu was
not yet mended.
Towards lunchtime, Jerry and I drove to Pangbourne, a small town a few
miles down the Thames, to do some shopping. It is small but rather smart,
with lots of expensive looking houses nearby and listed in the estate agents'
windows. There are a few decent shops and a scruffy looking Coop.

We patronised the cheese shop, which was magnificent, looked into the butchers'
window and failed to find what we wanted at the hardware store. The Co-op
did provide us with some basic foods and, thus fore armed, we entered the
Cross Keys for some good beer and crisps. The staff were friendly, the
fire warming and the menu and wine list were tempting. We resisted all
of these and returned home for a late lunch.

In mid afternoon, Jerry set off to his New Year's Eve celebrations, leaving
me working and Kathryn pottering and coughing in no particular order of
precedence. She produced another large, unhealthy and otherwise excellent
dinner, including a bottle of good NZ sauvignon blanc, and we watched TV
before have early nights. New Year's Eve party? What New Year's Eve party?
