April 19 Kiplin Hall

Dull again but no signs of rain. Lily had another walk in the woodland as we thought that it would be too wet on the path around the lake. Her toy was left behind as it would soon have been lost if it had gone with us.

I then re-organised my packing and did some computer work, and then left to visit Penny & Sandy in Stokesley.

This is a thirty minute drive along the lanes and through the market town of Northallerton. I stopped there & took some photos of the older buildings and the wide main street which, typically for this area, doubles as a market place. It was reasonably busy with people arriving in town to enjoy a sunny Sunday lunchtime.

Stokesley, when I reached it, turned out to be a very pretty market town with both a village green and a market square.

After a good lunch, we sought to reduce the affects by having a walk through the town to the River Leven, which runs parallel to the main street, with lots of ducks and very small ducklings in evidence.

There are several bridges, ranging from the very old packhorse bridge, designed for horses with panniers, and some more modern pedestrian ones.

There is a wide variety of buildings, some of which have a form of shallow bay windows which are a speciality of the town, and lots of interesting shops. The butcher's even listed the farm which was supplying the beef this week.

Even the flowers looked good, both those in gardens and those in the numerous planters which grace the pavements.

I returned to Kiplin, had a look at the changes to the inside of the Hall since I last visited, took a few photos in the sunshine and returned to the house to play with my notes and my photographs. After another walk in the grounds with Lily, we dined at home.
