November 10
Melbourne to Wellington

I heard heavy rain as I was going to bed and the morning TV news told me that there had been a violent storm over night. By the time I looked through the window, however, all was calm so I packed my waterproof.

I didn't get the chance to test my new alarm as I woke before it was set to go off. I checked out quickly and walked slowly down the hill to the bus station, boarded and was at the airport in no time. There were no queues at the check-in and the only delays were of about 25 minutes passing through security and immigration.

There is not a superfluity of food outlets at Melbourne on the air side. Heathrow is actually far better. I managed a reasonable ciabatta sandwich and a coffee and whiled away the time until take off.

The flight was uneventful. We landed more or less on time. Wayne was waiting to collect me and I arrived home just about on schedule.
