The boatsheds mark the start of the Camborne Walkway, which runs along the edge of the inlet for about 3 kilometres. Sam Hunt, doyen of New Zealand poets, is a famous former inhabitant of the sheds. In theory they are only supposed to be occupied on a temporary basis but the local council did not have the courage to take on someome as famous as Hunt and others used this as an excuse to make the sheds their permanent home. Many of them have running water, power, TV and the other trappings of modern life
The Inlet is very shallow but it suitable for sailing small boats. In the deeper section there is a water ski club. At the far end, near to Pauatahanui village is an extensive sanctuary for water birds
